SharmilaMurthySharmila L. Murthy is an Assistant Professor at Suffolk University Law School.  She was previously at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she was a Visiting Scholar with the Sustainability Science Program and a Fellow with the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy.

Sharmila’s research and teaching focuses on environmental, human rights, poverty, and property law.  She is especially interested in examining legal and policy barriers to equitable water access and sustainable water management.  In 2014, she was selected as a finalist for the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation.
